Under reconstruction

I hope you like the new look of our blog! Things will continue to change a bit as I get this new look sorted out, but I promise, we’re really going to try to keep it updated now.

Under construction!

I’m doing a little updating on the blog, so things might look a bit weird as I play around. Be patient, and if you can’t find what you’re after come back later. I should have everything in working order before too long!

A slight change

I am moving our blog to (no /blog). If you use a feed reader to subscribe to our blog or comments, please unsubscribe from the old address and add the new one. And you might have missed my last couple of posts–click on “Home” above to catch up.

As it says in my sidebar, I just can’t leave well enough alone!

video test

This is a test to see how to embed this video on a page. It’s The OaKs playing “Old Bones” and was a huge test for me to see if I could edit together a credible live video using Windows Movie Maker. Yes, Final Cut would have been easier!

Since it’s kind of hard to hear the words being a live performance, here they are…

Old Bones

in the valley is a grave
a thousand years alone
and the masses held their sway
from underneath the ground
I’d rest there everyday
as it fell on my route
in the shade
I’d lay in the grass
and imagine those
old bones

I searched the valley over
but no words remained
to hold the stories
whether noble or slave
I stacked up stones
to wall it in
and chased the wild dogs
nose to the ground for
old bones

one day came a trembling
like a great voice spoke
the ground pushed open
and bones rose
sinews stretched their fingers
muscle layered on
skin unrolled itself
and an army stood of
old bones

Here we go again

I know, it seems like I just moved the blog to WordPress such a short time ago. But I was really wanting to get it off WP’s servers and onto our own (okay, my brother-in-law‘s if you want to be picky about it). But here it is, looking all nice and shiny-new, and still driven by (just not hosted by) WordPress.

Simultaneously, we’ve gone live with what I’m calling “ v3.0.” Check it out at! There’s a whole new look and feel and updated content. I’m pretty proud of the fact that I didn’t use FrontPage or any other web design software for this one. Thanks to a great CSS template from DCarter (and a matching WP theme), I was able to do all of the work in code. There’s still no way I could start from scratch that way, and I’m still a long way from feeling like I know what I’m doing in html, but I was able to get it done.

Although I was able to get XHTML and CSS validation (yay!), I’m sure there are still a few bugs in the system. If you find any, please let me know so I can fix them. If you don’t, you can let me know that too. 🙂
